BSBSS00103 New Business Ventures Skill Set 

BSBSS00103 New Business Skill Set is an accredited course that provides aspiring entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge to plan and develop new business ventures. Key learning outcomes include evaluating business opportunities, developing and presenting a business proposal, organising finances and managing compliance requirements, and determining and planning resource needs. This skill set addresses the skills and knowledge to plan and develop new business ventures for a business generating self-employment, or for an existing organisation.

This skill set is available to participants under Self-Employment Assistance

Who is eligible for this course?

To be eligible*, you need to: 

be at least 15 years of age

An Australian citizen, the holder of a permanent visa, or a nominated Visa Holder (including a New Zealand Special Category Visa, Temporary Protection Visa Holder and a Safe Haven Visa Holder)

Not be an overseas visitor on a working holiday visa or an overseas student studying in Australia

Not be prohibited by law from working in Australia

Not be an undischarged bankrupt

Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital skills

You will require the Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital skills to:

Read and comprehend the course learning content 

Conduct a basic internet search 

Engage in online learning, including video conferencing sessions 

Use a range of software to communicate electronically and create simple documents 

If you require assistance with Language, Literacy, Numeracy, or Digital skills, we offer support to help you succeed, including:

  • Additional learning resources
  • One-on-one guidance.

Duration and delivery mode

This course is delivered online through Microsoft Teams and is scheduled for 26 hours per week (Monday – Friday) for a minimum of 8 weeks with an option to extend, depending on personal circumstances. It will include:

  • Facilitated virtual learning
  • Self-paced learning through our online learning platform; and
  • Virtual coaching sessions.

Student IT requirements

Students must have access to a computer or laptop, word processing software and the internet to undertake this course.

This training will take up to 8-weeks to complete. You must complete the four Units of Competency listed below.
