Deferring, discontinuing, or withdrawing from your course

An enrolled student may request to defer or discontinue their Smart and Skilled subsidised training. Deferring means placing the training on hold temporarily, while discontinuing refers to withdrawing from the course entirely.

Deferring training

If you are enrolled with MTC FutureReady in a qualification offered under a subsidised program and are experiencing difficulties with your training due to personal or other circumstances, you may request to defer your studies up to 12 months from the date of your written request. Before submitting a deferment request, we recommend speaking with an MTC representative, as they may be an opportunity to implement an adjustment, such as flexible scheduling. To proceed with a deferment, you are required to complete ‘Withdrawal/Refund/Deferment Request Form’.

Please note that deferring subsidised training may have fee implications, and MTC FutureReady will advise you of any applicable fees at the time of your deferment. We are committed to supporting you so that you can resume and successfully complete your studies when you are ready. It is essential that you recommence your training within the 12-month deferment period. If you do not recommence within this timeframe, MTC is obligated to notify the NSW Department of Education of your decision to discontinue subsidised training.

Discontinuing training

An enrolled student may withdraw or discontinue from a course for any reason. If you need to cancel or withdraw from your training at any time, you are required to notify MTC FutureReady in writing by completing the Withdrawal/Refund/Deferment Request Form. Before submitting a request, we strongly recommend speaking with an MTC representative, as there may be an opportunity to implement an adjustment, such as flexible scheduling or deferring.

For more information on receiving a refund, please refer to our Refund Policy (P 053 Refund Policy) or please visit https://www.nsw.gov.au/education-and-training/resources/smart-and-skilled-fee-administration-policy.

If an enrolled student has successfully completed and been deemed competent in at least one unit of competency, a Statement of Attainment will be issued withing 30 days of the date MTC FutureReady receives your notice of discontinuation.
