Stories – Kesorn

Kesorn joined MTC Wollongong in February 2025, keen to build her English skills.

Originally from Thailand, she brought a calm, focused attitude to every class. She had clear goals: improve her reading, writing, listening and speaking so she could feel more confident in everyday life.

From day one, Kesorn’s calm and focused attitude stood out. She approached each lesson with care and commitment. Whether it was reading a passage, writing a report or joining a group chat, Kesorn gave it her best. She wasn’t afraid to ask questions and always stayed steady, even when things got tricky.

Learning a new language isn’t easy, and Kesorn faced her fair share of tricky grammar and unfamiliar vocabulary. But she never let frustration get the better of her. Instead, she leaned into her patient mindset, kept practising, and stayed open to support.

A standout moment in her journey was participating in a poem competition. While creative writing wasn’t her primary focus, it gave her a chance to apply all the skills she had been developing in a new, exciting way. Kesorn crafted heartfelt poem about Wollongong, the place she now calls home. Her words were clear, thoughtful and full of feeling.

To her surprise and delight, Kesorn won the competition! It was a proud moment that showed just how far she had come. She now finds herself more confident, more capable, and better equipped than when she first started her journey.
