Good News
Stories – Randall

Randall came to MTC FutureReady Fortitude Valley in 2023 after spending some time out of work. At the time, his main challenge was managing his mental health, which had impacted his confidence, routine, and ability to find stable employment.

A man riding a pencil upwards

When Randall first started with MTC, he was facing a number of barriers. He’d been dealing with low confidence, concentration issues, and mental health challenges linked to a psychotic disorder. He also found it hard to identify jobs that suited his skills and personal situation. These challenges made it difficult for him to stay confident and consistent in his job search.

The team at MTC Fortitude Valley worked closely with Randall to provide support that matched his needs and goals. He took part in the Employability Skills Training (EST) Program, where he learnt about career planning, employability skills, and self-development strategies to help build his confidence and prepare for work. He was then referred to a recruitment coach, which led to casual labouring work at events through a recruitment company. Randall very quickly showed initiative and began asking for shifts on his own.

Unfortunately, Randall faced some personal challenges when he took on caring responsibilities for his mother and struggled to continue work at the same time. The team quickly adjusted his PBAS support to make sure he could continue moving forward.

Additional help was provided, including driving lessons, work clothing, Go Card top-ups, and structured goal setting. With ongoing support and regular encouragement from his MTC Coach, Randall was able to rebuild his routine and return to consistent work.

Randall has now secured full-time employment directly with the company he was previously working with through a recruitment company. He now has access to benefits like annual leave and sick leave, giving him more stability and security. He still regularly visits MTC FutureReady Fortitude Valley to share updates and stay connected with his support team. His employer has also provided very positive feedback and often praises his strong work ethic. Randall sees his current role as a long-term fit and values the supportive workplace culture, which he says reminds him of the support he received from MTC throughout his journey.
