MTC FutureReady and Brisbane Airport teamed up to deliver a four-week hospitality program designed to connect job seekers with real employment opportunities.
MTC FutureReady’s Hospitality Pilot Program with Brisbane Airport focused on general employment skills training and specific hospitality training. In the first two weeks, participants worked on practical workplace skills such as communication, presentation, and interview techniques. They were then supported to complete key certifications including Food Safety, Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), and Barista Skills Set training. This ensured they developed both the confidence and the job-ready skills that employers expect.
The program then moved into hands-on learning. Participants completed a barista course and took part in practical activities that reflected real-world hospitality environments. Through this approach, the MTC team reinforced skills through practice, helping participants build capability in a structured and supportive setting.
A key strength of the program was its direct connection to industry. In the final week, participants were invited to Brisbane Airport Hotel for a guided tour of the facilities, including housekeeping, kitchen operations, and food and beverage services. Participants gained valuable insight into how these departments function within a hospitality environment and the range of employment opportunities available.
Following the tour, everyone enjoyed light refreshments and had the opportunity to engage directly with the Brisbane Airport Hotels Group HR team, asking questions and learning more about employer expectations and career pathways.
The program concluded with site walkthroughs and group interviews, supporting a smooth transition from training into employment. With 11 participants successfully completing the program, it demonstrated how strong industry partnerships and ongoing support can connect participants to real job opportunities.
