Stories – Dean
Dean had been feeling stuck. With low motivation and little confidence in his digital skills, the idea of starting something new felt overwhelming.
That changed when he met a consultant at MTC FutureReady’s Marrickville site who saw his potential and encouraged him to give training a go. With steady support, Dean enrolled in the Employability Skills Training (EST) program.
Dean, who grew up in a time before tech was everywhere, was honest with his trainer from the start. He had never used a laptop before. The trainer reassured him they’d be there every step of the way.
At first, he found it tough. Using a laptop felt frustrating, and he doubted himself. But with patience, guidance and a whole lot of encouragement, things started to shift.
Two weeks later, Dean was using the laptop with confidence, searching for jobs online, and had even created his first resume in Microsoft Word. For the first time in a long time, Dean was enjoying learning.
Since completing the program, Dean’s come a long way. His digital skills have improved, but even more importantly, his mindset has transformed. He’s now excited to learn and continues to take on new training opportunities recommended by his consultant.
Applying for jobs used to feel impossible. Now, Dean does it with confidence and independence.
