Stories – Agnes
Agnes came to MTC ready to invest in herself and start a new chapter. With personalised support and digital skills training, she built her confidence and found community.
Agnes, moved to Australia at just 18 after marrying her husband. Now a proud mum and grandmother, she was ready to focus on herself. She was looking to build skills, find work, and secure her future.
Agnes mainly wanted to upskill in digital literacy and job search strategies so she could land a full-time job with super and retirement benefits. But like many, she faced a few hurdles. She’d completed a computer course at other institutions but still felt unsure about basic tasks like attaching documents. She also didn’t own a laptop or computer to practise on.
That’s where MTC came in.
Agnes joined our SEE Digital Skills course and quickly found the support she’d been missing. With custom-designed content, a moderate pace, and one-on-one help from her trainer, she started to feel more at ease. Having access to a laptop at our MTC site made a huge difference, it gave her the hands-on experience she needed to really engage with the course.
Just two weeks in, Agnes formed a strong bond with her fellow trainees, and the encouragement she received helped her believe in herself. Slowly but surely, she started to overcome her challenges. She practised at her own pace, built her confidence, and began to see new possibilities.
Three months later, Agnes hit a major milestone, she secured full-time work as a Housekeeping-Houseperson at the Sydney Shangri-La Hotel. And we couldn’t be prouder!
At her farewell, Agness shared her gratitude, “What I like about MTC is allowing me to practise at my own pace rather than stressing me out with a tight time to complete assessment after assessment. MTC’s Digital Literacy course enabled me to gain practical skills.”
