Stories-Nikolay and Tetiana

Nikolay and Tetiana are former coaches of the Ukrainian Paralympic team, with careers spanning more than 25 years.

A man riding a pencil upwards

Nikolay and Tetiana began their journey as swim coaches, 25 years ago, drawn to the profession by their passion for the water and a desire to help others. Their inspiration came from a young boy who had been in an accident. After stepping in to support him, they dedicated themselves to serving the Paralympic community. Since then, they have travelled the world, from London to Brazil to Tokyo, to attend the Paralympics and support their team.

After relocating to Australia to live with their son, they faced the challenge of improving their English and developing essential digital skills. And so, they enrolled with MTC FutureReady Chatswood in 2024.

Nikolay and Tetiana enjoyed their classes at MTC as the content aligned with each of their learning needs. Nikolay appreciated the breakfast provided at MTC and valued his time with other students in the breakout room. He found completing the booklets and attending face-to-face lessons particularly beneficial, as he received constructive feedback and effective strategies to improve his grammar.

On the other hand, Tetiana enjoyed face-to-face lessons, which addressed her learning requirements and answered her pressing questions. The couple also agreed that the digital literacy sessions were extremely valuable, especially for meeting the demands of the current job market.

Today, Nikolay is a swim coach at North Sydney College and Tetiana has found work as a support worker and is considering pursuing a Certificate III in Disability. With new skills and opportunities, they are looking forward to a safe and fulfilling future with their son and granddaughter.
