Meet MTC – Tristan
As advocates for inclusive hiring practices, at MTC FutureReady we pride ourselves on practicing what we preach. Our workforce consists of more than 500 people from diverse backgrounds. Many of them have experienced the same challenges our clients might face.
By supporting over 22,000 people in overcoming barriers to meaningful work, we strive to provide the best support to our clients and employers. We are able to do so because of our people.
With nearly two decades of work experience in the disability employment space, Tristan is MTC FutureReady’s new Regional Manager for Inclusive Employment Australia in Melbourne. He joined us in late 2025 and is deeply passionate about building community and spending time in the great outdoors.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I grew up in a small country town in the middle of Victoria called Warracknabeal (I bet you’re googling the location now). Growing up I spent much of my time by the Yarriambiack river. Fishing, swimming or just having fun with my two brothers. Now, I spend my time enjoying the outdoors while camping or on bush walks and hikes. One of my passions is supporting the community and I’ve been volunteering for over 16 years for a youth program across regional Victoria. The program is aimed at giving young people leadership skills they can implement in their daily lives to achieve great things.
Can you tell us about your career journey?
As a kid, I dreamed of being a chef. When I grew up, I was fortunate enough to study commercial cookery, until I landed a trainee manager role working for Target Country. I worked with the Target Group for 8 years and stumbled into a Business Development role for Disability Employment, and from there I worked across Melbourne and held many roles.
I have found my calling with the industry and enjoy working in it every day.
What drew you to work in Inclusive Employment Australia?
I love working in this industry and I get such satisfaction from seeing our participants overcome barriers and achieve personal growth and goals. Employment is such a powerful thing and can really give someone meaning and purpose. I’ve always loved this about Disability Employment Services, now called Inclusive Employment Australia.
What’s your philosophy when it comes to managing people?
I believe impactful leadership involves open communication and sharing knowledge. I enjoy empowering my team members to grow in their role and be the best version of themselves, providing support to them so they can continue to grow professionally and personally.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
The best advice I’ve ever been given is to be patient and present. Sometimes life can get away from us if we don’t stop and “smell the roses”.
What would you say to your 21-year-old self?
You don’t need to have a defined path in life. Your goals will change and develop over time and you will achieve so much in your life in a short period of time.
