Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW)

Are you looking for work? We know this task can seem daunting but with the Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) program, our experienced trainers can help you increase your employability success!

What is the Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) program?

MTC FutureReady’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work Programs help you build the skills you need to get ready for work. Both programs are no cost to you. 

If you’ve ever felt cut off from the employment opportunities others take for granted, we understand, and we’re here to help you take practical steps towards real progress.  

Need support to attend? MTC FutureReady can help you with transport assistance, interview clothing, phone credit and we’ll give you lunch each day.

Skills Training for Employment Pathways (STEP)

Over 12 weeks you’ll come to classes two days a week and learn the digital, literacy and numeracy skills which are essential for everyday life and joining the workforce.  

Your STEP trainer will support you with improving your digital literacy including how to use computers, tablets and mobile phones and showing you how these devices can help make your everyday life easier. All Participants can also choose between completing a Construction White Card or a First Aid certificate free as part of the course. 

When you join MTC’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work STEP program, our experienced trainers will be with you all the way, boosting your chance of being successful! We’ll also support your mental and physical well-being through holistic activities such as mindfulness activities including meditation and yoga. 

At MTC, you’ll learn how to:

Use digital devices – phones, computers, tablets.

Use basic software and communication in the modern world, including emails, online and video calls/meetings and managing your life online.  

Improve your language, literacy and numeracy skills with practical advice you can use in your real life.

Identify your skills and a future path to success.

Access support to find education, training or employment opportunities and preparing you for future opportunities.

Training Knowledge Opportunity (TKO)

Running over six weeks, MTC’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work Training Knowledge Opportunity (TKO) program focuses on increasing your employment skills, confidence, and work readiness. As well as improving your skillset, the Skilling Queenslanders for Work TKO program will support your mental and physical well-being through mindfulness activities, including meditation and yoga.  

All Participants can also choose between completing a Construction White Card or a First Aid certificate. 

The TKO program will help you:

Search for work and access the hidden job market. 

Identify your skills & attributes.  

Understand application tracking software.  

Market and promote yourself.  

Practise interview techniques – using VR technology.  

Prepare to start a new position.  

Combat the cost-of-living increase and be prepared for a better future.    

Taking part in the Skilling Queenslanders for Work TKO program will reconnect you with employers and give you access to MTC FutureReady’s vast employer network and other support organisations in your local community.  

Who is eligible for Skilling Queenslanders for Work TKO program?

MTC FutureReady’s STEP and TKO programs (Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiatives) are open to people who:

are aged 15 years or older

are living in Queensland

meet Australian residency requirements
