Stories – Keum
Keum joined the Skills for Education and Employment Program at MTC FutureReady Blacktown to improve her English and build her confidence. Originally from South Korea, she brought a strong work ethic, a passion for helping others and a wealth of life experience.
Throughout her time in the SEE program, Keum actively participated in classroom learning, excursions and student activities designed to strengthen her English skills and prepare for future job opportunities. Through speaking activities, group discussions and role plays, she gained confidence using English in everyday situations and learned how to communicate more effectively in the workplace.
The SEE Program also supported Keum to develop her digital skills through practical, step-by-step learning. With ongoing guidance from her trainer, she became more confident using technology and applying her new skills both inside and outside the classroom.
Excursions to local community services, including the library, hospital and council events, gave Keum the opportunity to practise her English in real-life settings while learning more about the services available in her community.
As her confidence grew, so did her plans for the future. Inspired by her desire to care for others and make a positive difference, Keum decided to pursue a career in aged care. In March 2026, she enrolled in a Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care) at REACH for Training in Parramatta.
Keum’s journey shows the impact of consistent support, practical learning opportunities and access to community services. Together they can help participants build confidence, develop new skills and move closer to their goals.
